Measurement Specialties and its divisions represent a collective market of goods and services that is considerable by any measure. Each division has requirements specific to the portfolio of products that it markets, but there are some major commodity segments that span our enterprise. These are:
- CNC Machine Precision Parts
- Electronic Components
- Glass-to-Metal Hermetic Seals
- Assembly Services
- Plastic Molding
- Raw PCB’s
- Cables & Wires
- Chemicals & Specialty Materials
- Raw Materials i.e. stainless steel bars, seamless tubing, resins
- Thick-Film Substrates
- Indirect Goods, MRO & Services
These commodities are considered strategic in nature and thus have an increased focus and visibility across our collective business. To focus our spend attention in these areas we have developed an organizational model around these commodities to ensure our divisions have the necessary expertise to make technical materials decisions, execute tactical sourcing decisions, achieve required productivity, and to ensure continuity of supply. We do this via ongoing and fully engaged cross-functional “Commodity Teams.”
Our Commodity Teams are designed to provoke synergy in these areas and have been created to drive commodity strategy, while leading in identifying and syndicating emerging opportunities to the divisional sourcing organizations. The leaders of our Commodity Teams publish commodity strategy, drive volume leveraging, execute enterprise-wide contracts, and report on key supplier relationships for these enterprise-wide strategic spend areas.
In addition to the above, our corporation runs a number of worldwide factories that require traditional MRO (Maintenance Repair and Operational) supplies to support their day-to-day operations. In the process of their production cycles, they consume various raw materials and use fabricated parts that must be purchased to support our production needs. World-class suppliers are necessary to sustain these operations and represent broad spending areas at division and local levels.
In all cases and across all commodities, we recognize that our suppliers play a very significant role in our success.
